Network to Release Acclaimed South Pole drama

THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH (12)
A dramatic account of one of the greatest adventure stories of the Twentieth Century, Network is delighted to announce the release of THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH, which recounts the epic journey of Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen’s race to the South Pole. Released as a two-disc on 20th November 2006, THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH contains all seven episodes of this powerful drama series, first broadcast on ITV in 1985, complete and uncut.
Setting sail on June 1st 1910 from Cardiff, Captain Robert Falcon Scott (Martin Shaw – The Professionals, Judge John Deed) faced a race against time against Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen (Sverre Anker Ousdal) to be the first man to the South Pole. Ill-equipped and ill-prepared, Scott’s expedition went down in history – but never came back alive. After the bitter disappointment of reaching the South Pole second, all five members of Scott’s team perished on the return journey.
Written by award-winning dramatist Trevor Griffiths (Oi for England, Reds) and based on the novel by Roland Huntford, THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH is an unflinching and frank account of the race to be the first to one of the most remote places on the planet. Directed by the BAFTA-nominated Ferdinand Fairfax (Kavanagh QC, Danger UXB), THE LAST PLACE ON EARTH also features performances from Stephen Moore (Doc Martin, Brassed Off), Michael Maloney (New Tricks, Hamlet), Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Love Actually) and Max von Sydow (The Exorcist, The Seventh Seal).
