Second Sight will be releasing the DVD of A Wedding starring Mia Farrow, Geraldine Chaplin and Lillian Gish, on the 15th August. The retail price is quoted as £19.99, here’s the full press release:

Iconoclastic director Robert Altman (Gosford Park, The Player, MASH) offers his unique take on the institution of marriage with this raucous comedy about a wedding reception that quickly turns to chaos. Released theatrically in 1978 to great critical acclaim the film still stands up today as a masterpiece of filmmaking and will be available to own on DVD courtesy of Second Sight on 15 August 2005.

When The Corellis and the Brenners come together for the joyous occasion of their children’s wedding, events get off to a shaky start with the aging Bishop struggling to remember the order of service. As the reception gets under way the wedding planner looks set to crack, the over-zealous security staff attack one of the guests, infidelities are rife and scandalous secrets are revealed. As chaos ensues and tension rises between the opposing families, ‘the big day’ moves towards a dramatic conclusion.

Altman assembles a great cast including Mia Farrow (Rosemary’s Baby, Husbands and Wives), Geraldine Chaplin (Dr Zhivago) and classic silent film star Lillian Gish in this wickedly funny farce in which he compassionately mocks marriage and family life.

Hollywood heavyweight Altman came to huge prominence in the 1970s with his unique way of film-making that went against the conventions of mainstream movies. He was famed for his inventive brand of overlapping and improvisational dialogue and an acknowledged master of modern camera technique.

The DVD extras include an interview with Altman and a photo gallery.
