THE LAST ENEMY

‘TOMORROW IS NEARER THAN YOU THINK’

OUT TO OWN ON DVD ON 10TH MARCH 2008

THE LAST ENEMY is a visionary and dynamic five part thriller series which takes a shocking look at the emerging political world of tomorrow, today. The drama is about a man whose search for the truth about his brother's death catapults him into an international conspiracy - and a passionate love affair"  THE LAST ENEMY is out to own on DVD on Monday 10th March 2008 courtesy of Universal Playback.

The contemporary high octane drama, written by Peter Berry (Prime Suspect 6) and directed by Iain B MacDonald (Bodies), features an all-star cast including Robert Carlyle (28 Weeks Later, Trainspotting), Benedict Cumberbatch (Atonement, The Other Boleyn Girl), Max Beesley (Hotel Babylon, Bodies), BAFTA winner Anamaria Marinca (Sex Traffic, 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days), David Harewood (Blood Diamond) and Geraldine James (Calendar Girls, State of Play).

When the reclusive Stephen Ezard returns to London to attend the funeral of his brother Michael (Beesley), he realises his country has changed subtly but significantly from the one he left behind several years earlier. A major terrorist attack has a stranglehold over London and has transformed the city into a paranoid shell of its former self. National security is tighter and biometric ID cards are compulsory. Citizens’ every movement is under surveillance 24 hours a day. The Government want to catch would be terrorists before they have a chance to strike again.

After four years abroad, Stephen is confused and vulnerable. He is startled to discover that Michael had a beautiful wife, Yasim (Marinca), and seeks comfort in her arms. However, Yasim is on a mission of her own. Terrified of losing her, Stephen gets caught between the expanding powers of government intelligence and the murky world of illegal refugees and the new underclass of ID castaways. Forced to challenge his own complacencies about this new society, Stephen agrees to support a secretive government project called TIA, but his actions trigger a succession of strange events. Kidnapped by the menacing Russell (Carlyle), wooed by a well-connected old flame and pursued at every turn, Stephen doesn’t know who he can trust.

A pawn in a mysterious conspiracy, he discovers to his cost just how far the country will go to protect its people in a world where trust is dying only to be replaced by technology. Stephen is determined to find out what really happened to Michael and the city he loves… Even at the risk of losing his own identity.

Engage in a mystery that presents challenging and difficult questions about the future, in a taut and exciting story, that doesn’t shy away from the big issues that have affected the politics of global security in the last few years.
