Track: Runnin' Wild
After signing a deal in early 2005 with Capitol Records and relocating from Warrnambool to Melbourne, Airbourne went from popular pub-rock to supporting bands like The Rolling Stones and Motley Crue, as well as playing many larger music festivals. This track, Runnin' Wild, is the first single from their forthcoming album which should be released in Australia during April '07 - worldwide following.
Having not personally heard a lot of Airbourne's music, I was pleasantly surprised not to hear the same old generated emotional vocals over disjointed melodies, but instead having my speakers massacred by a huge dose of heavy charging, hair flinging, old style rock. The band, and this single, have the same 80's retro appeal as 'The Darkness' had for us Brits, but with more talent and less tongue in cheek. Musically the sound is very mature and well produced. You'd expect Airbourne to be a 4 piece band averaging 30-40 years old, so it comes as a surprise that the lads are aged between 18 and 22.
I feel like I should be playing 'Runnin' Wild' in an open top car whilst speeding down a dusty highway, unruly hair and bandana's flowing in the breeze, whilst throwing the horns to the rest of the world. This single is a breath of fresh air in today's pretentious rock genre. Airbourne are a great band, and will no doubt produce a fantastic guitar fuelled, anthem filled album for older style metallers to rock out to, and have a blast doing it. Get your air guitars ready!
