I wonder if anyone else remembers this comedy sketch series from BBC Scotland?

Even though it ran for five series, most people seem to have forgotten about it's existance.  Sadly I think Naked Video was overshadowed by the equally funny Not The Nine O'Clock News.

Naked Video, as you would expect, is full of young budding comediens who wanted to put something different on TV.  Knock the Tory government as much as you like, but indirectly it did create a lot of comedy talent during the 80's and early 90's.
Without such a capatalist, stuck up and 'grown up' government body to angst against, British comedy would be quite different and dare I say it, crap, today.  Think Two Pint's Of Larger and a Packet of Crisps, but every week for the past 15 years.  Scary isn't it?

Anyway, so what do all these young Labour rebels decide to do to show their dissaprovel of the Conservative government and inspire the revolution?  Yes, that's right, they start a sketch show.  If only we'd have thought of that before World War 2, it would've saved a load of bother!

I suppose that's a bit unfair, at least it was a start.  Just looking back now it seems such a wimpy form of protest.  But then, protest is usually started by the weaker and less albe side, and as such can seem a bit wimpy.

Right, that's enough of that.  I shouldn't be wasting my political thoughts here, no, I should be wasting them on my Open University essay that is sitting in the corner gathering dust.

I've always liked comedy sketches, (I even like to write them, another quick chance to plug my website again hehe) a short burst of comedy that can be both clever and insightful without having to be stretched to 28 minutes to become part of a sitcom controlled by some people in expensive suits with less sense of humor than a carrot and who are more interested in 'extended viewing figure audience' pie charts rather than genuine comedy talent.

Naked Video also lauched the careers of some of the starts, most notibly: Gregor Fisher, who's Rab C Nesbit and Baldy Man characters continuted well into the mid 90's.  Helen Lederer is probably the other star you'll recognise, she has appeared in loads of things since and is a funny actress.

So if like me you like sketch shows, then you'll love Naked Video.  Most of the sketches are still funny today, a couple, especially the political ones are more of the time, but none the less, a bit of nostalga for you!

Absolutly no extras on this disc I'm afraid!

Apart from looking and sounding a bit 80's, everything looks and sounds ok on this disc, just if you're expecting surround sound and high def visuals you'll be VERY dissapointed!
