Set in an Australian inner city, we see the lives of some bizarre people, including a gangster, his girlfriend, his right hand man, a DJ, a trumpet player, and a kebab shop owner intersect one hot summer weekend. Set against a rave culture backdrop, we watch as separate stories intertwine around the local nightclub.

This film is sold as a Kylie Minogue vehicle, and I'm sure it will sell loads as a result, but as each of the main characters (of which there must be a dozen) gets pretty equal screen time, she only features for a quarter, if not less of the movie. However I must stress that this is actually a really good film. Despite all but three of the characters (including Kylie's character, Jess) being pretty unlikeable, the plots twist and turn but are all interesting. None of them are particularly original (gangster moll running away with right hand man, two inner city homeboy wannabes coming to terms with their own insignificance etc.), and bits of the story are a bit confusing or make little sense, it's well played throughout, and directed with considerable energy. The soundtrack, mostly ambient dance, adds a pretty haunting tension to the whole affair. Direction is tight and keeps the plot flowing, and the stories are brought together well at the end. An enjoyable film that deserves a wider viewing than it's
probably going to get.

The DVD is a bit of a disappointment. A poor transfer means that a vividly colourful film is spoilt by some nasty bleed and the image is no better than your average VHS purchase. The sound is in 2.0 which is a pity given the cool music. The only extras are some stills from the film exclusively featuring Miss Minogue. This is a very good film but given the poor DVD presentation, is probably only worth hiring.
