Movie
Before we get carried away with the case, lets talk about the most important part of the DVD, the movie itself. If you hadn't guest by the title its a sequel, to cult classic The Evil Dead. Due to a recap at the start, you don't need to see the original. Many people consider this to be a remake of the original, and you can see why. But this would sell the sequel short. It has the same rush as the original, but not the same amount of scares.
This is taken away with visual comedy, helped very much by star Bruce Campbell. I don’t want give the story away, but this is slapstick horror at its best. It’s a mix of the original movie (horror) and a further sequel Army of Darkness (comedy). It is a classic movie that can be enjoyed over and over again. Of special note is director Sam Raimi, now famed for Spiderman, his dynamic directorship was a joy back then, as it is now.
Picture
With DVD you expect (and demand) good picture quality. The picture quality is amazing considering, its an early low budget eighties movie, you would think this is a brand new movie, well done Anchor Bay.
Sound
Dolby 5.1, crisp clear sound, you woofer gets a bit of a work out, the rears not as much, but nothing to grumble about.
Extras
Apart form the stunning case, you get a documentary, biographies, trailer and a commentary. Not much but, the commentary with the crew including Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell, is excellent. It is funny and insightful; it is as entertaining as the feature presentation. It is worth the cash alone, thanks again Anchor Bay.
Overall
This is a fantastic original movie, the DVD breathes new life to a forgotten classic, buy it now...go on. If you like this consider The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, and Hong Kong classic Mr Vampire (many people consider it to be the inspiration for Sam Raimi's trilogy.
Now available without the tin, but has all the features, except a booklet.
