This is the kind of film that it’s difficult to describe without totally ruining the plot for the reader, so I’ll say no more about the story.

This is a recent re-release of the DVD and as I didn't see the previous version I can't comment on any difference in picture quality. I did however find the picture to be a little grainy for such a recent film (1998). Apart from this though this is a pretty good anamorphic picture. There's also 4:3 version on the same disc for anyone that doesn't own a Widescreen TV.

The 5.1 soundtrack doesn't do too much to tax your sound system, but what's there is good. What I really enjoyed about the audio side of the film is the musical score. I found the songs used to be well placed and added the enjoyment of the scenes.

There's not much here on the extras side. There's a very good 30 minute interview with the Coen brothers, this gives a good insight into the film. Apart from that the only extras here are a Trailer and some cast and crew bios.

This is the kind of film that your going to love or absolutely hate. I thoroughly enjoyed it and really got absorbed into the characters. I found that the story twisted and turned and yet managed to stay very funny, particularly the Dudes dream/flashback scenes. My girlfriend however absolutely loathed the whole experience, she found the plot slow and uninteresting and hated the characters, particularly John Goodmans character.

This is definitely one that you have to try for yourself and see what you think. If there's going to be more than one of you watching, then expect a mixed reaction.
