This was one of the first DVD titles I ever had, so it’s taken me a while to get around to reviewing it. I hadn’t even heard about this film before buying it, but I’d seen lots of talk about it on some DVD news groups and it seemed to be a popular film, so I thought I’d try it out. Plus I’d also gone temporarily DVD insane at the time and was buying just about any film that my credit card could handle.
Four high school friends are horrified by the prospect of going to college virgins, so they decide to do something about it. They make a pact that they will all help each other to ‘get laid’ by Prom Night. They all try different ways of achieving this from Chris ‘Oz’ Ostreicher (Chris Klein) joining the school song group to Jim (Jason Biggs) chasing the gorgeous Czech exchange student Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth).
With the scene set what follows is ninety odd minutes off hilarious jokes, sexual innuendo, one apple pie, a cup of beer that turns my stomach just thinking about it, a truly amazing pair of eyebrows (Eugene Levy) and of course the gorgeous Nadia (did I mention that before?).

The picture comes in a 1.85:1 Anamorphic format and has no visible problems as far as I could see. It’s sharp with no colour saturation and no visible artefact's. The soundtrack is Dolby Digital 5.1 and although the sound stage isn’t exactly pushed by this dialogue based film it still sounds very good with some excellent music tracks.
There’s a fairly extensive list of extras on the disk including a spotlight on location featurette that consists of cast & crew interviews and behind the scenes footage. There’s an advert for movie sound track that also contains a music video. There are some pretty funny outtakes. There’s six different trailers including American Pie (of course), Man on The Moon, Snow Falling on Cedars, Blues Brothers, Animal House and American Graffiti. There’s also some pretty good text based production notes.

The best extra though is the audio commentary track from the Director, Producer, Writer and several of the male cast members. This is definitely a guys only track as the cast seem to spend most of it discussing how good looking all the female extras were.
If your expecting a film full of naked young girls then you’ll be disappointed as the comedy is a little more sophisticated than that. If however you’re after a light hearted comedy in the same kind of vein as the Porkies films and your not easily offended then this will definitely be up your street. The laughs just keep coming and the story is compelling.
This was the unrated version of the film, but the only differences to the rated version that I’m aware of are a different pie scene and a more revealing Nadia scene. I believe that the Region 2 UK version is the same as the Region 1 unrated. This is a great comedy can be watched more than once and I give it 4 out of 5.
