During the mid-1980s Voltron became one of the most popular animated series of all time. Now, Voltron is back in the form of Voltron: Defenders of The Universe Collection 1 – Blue Lion, a three-disc DVD release packaged in a limited edition, embossed Steelbook and containing the first 15 episodes of the series.

But that's not all! For this release, painstaking care has been taken to bring Voltron up to modern visual standards with a superb piece of restoration work involving new film transfers, brand new colour correction and a re-edit using the original series episodes as guides. The result is Voltron as you've never seen it before.

Voltron tells the futuristic tale of a time when the universal forces of good have consolidated into the Galaxy Alliance. The Alliance's mission is to explore the universe to help those in trouble and to fight the dark forces of evil. In an attempt to achieve its mission, the Alliance brings together five of the toughest young space explorers in the galaxy – Sven, Keith, Lance, Pidge and Hunk – each possessed of extraordinary fighting and piloting skills. At first detained and made slaves in the sport arena of Planet Doom, the five heroes escape and travel to the Planet Arus seeking the secret of the legendary Voltron, the mightiest battle robot in the galaxy. Piloting their own individual "Lion" robots, the five discover that in times of great danger they are able to combine the Lions to create the mighty robot warrior, Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
