Welcome Back to Digitallard, We Missed You All

Digitallard is open for businessIf you’ve been around this site before then you’ve probably noticed that it’s gone a bit quiet for some time. In fact I think the last review we put live was in December 2010, so the site has been pretty dormant until then.

But we’re back, we’ve been working pretty hard behind the scenes figuring out the future for the site, making some changes, modernising, tinkering and generally looking busy.  We’ve made some significant changes to the site which I will list below but we also have a little way to go in terms of finishing all our changes but I think we have enough done to officially describe digitallard as open for business.

The changes we’ve made

  1. Massive delete of prehistoric data – Now we feel pretty confident in saying that you guys are not interested in the latest hot DVD releases from April 2002. So we took the decision to purge a lot of data. Those old news items are gone, dead, kaput, like the Norwegian blue they are ex content (apologies to the non Monty Python fans for the bad joke).  We will be bringing back some of the more recent news and editorials items but they will appear here in the blog as blog posts.  In fact we’ve simplified things so that there are basically reviews and blog posts, anything that isn’t a review belongs here in the blog.
  2. Social media integration – We all love social media right? Everyone is on Facebook, even our mothers are on Facebook.  So we’ve implemented social media tools wherever we can, Facebook like buttons, tweet buttons and Facebook comments on every review. We hope you find these new tools useful. We will soon be creating our own Facebook and Twitter pages and will let you know once they are ready.
  3. Shopping section moved to dedicated site – We felt that the whole shopping section of the site kind of diluted the whole central theme of what digitallard was about. We’re not a shopping channel, we’re a movie and game site and so we wanted to reflect that. However we know people used our price comparison engine so we’ve moved it over to a new dedicated site called pricesaving.co.uk. We still show price comparisons on reviews where possible but these are now hosted by our sister price comparison site.
  4. Review format changes – We’re still in the process of going through our archives with this but we’ve made some changes to the layout of the review screen. These include social integration as in point 2, popup screenshot viewer (screenshots are now on the side bar), Facebook comments section, related reviews list, trailer video where available and ratings are now moved to the sidebar. If you want to see a demonstration of the new layout, take a look at our Ghost Town DVD Review. We hope you like the new layout.

The future

We have lots of plans in the pipeline for future features on the site, for now we’re focussed on cleaning up the content, putting the last pieces of the puzzle in place and getting some new content on site. Any new features we will mention here on the blog, so watch this space and we really hope you like what we’ve done, any and all comments always welcome.
