Movies to see pt.1 - By sjp1966@hotmail.co.uk

Five films I want to see Pt.1

Trawling, as you do, through the internet I regularly stop off at the apple.com site to have a peek at any trailers that look interesting and I came across 19 different films that for me looked pretty interesting, and I may be tempted to see at the movies. However after watching them some would only make the rental list.

Click the titles to go see the trailer.

This already has a great 8.4 score at IMDB and look incredibly good. Robert De Niro is a fading producer that is trying to get his picture made and is having issues with Bruce Willis who he needs to shave his beard. This also stars Sean Penn and the great John Turturro. The trailer sold this for me, De Niro is a class actor whom although in recent years has been in some less than brilliant movies is nonetheless a class actor, the film appeal to me although not necessarily one I would need to go to the movies to see. (Movies/DVD).

I loved this game when it was out on the PC, it was very noir. And then Sin City came along and I was sold on the concept. The trailer reminded me both of the game and of Sin City is and although I don’t think Mark Wahlberg is the greatest actor out there and certainly not one that I would imagine being a Max Payne character this may well be one to see. (Movies).

I have a lot of respect for Keifer Sutherland, 24 turned his career around and I think that he is a good solid actor, this horror film looks awesome, the large building is fantastically creepy and the trailer really makes this a “see if the movies” kind of film. (Movies).

On for DVD rental I think after seeing this trailer. I do like Jason Statham but this reminds me of The Fast and the Furious… but in jail. (DVD Rental).

Frank Miller is certainly the man of the moment, with Sin City and 300 being transferred to film in recent years, this new Noir release I think will be pretty good, and I may just see it at the movies to soak up the atmosphere. (Movies)

I think it was around 1979 when I tried to sneak into the local Odeon cinema to see Ridley Scott’s Alien that I started to become more aware of movies and finding out what I liked in terms of genre. But somewhat surprisingly even at that young age I was enjoying some of the older films such as Forbidden Planet.

It was not until I was given my first DVD that the bug hit me. And it was all down to a mate giving me a Region 1 version of “The Matrix” as his player was only a region 2. From there it has been a mainly constant purchasing process to increase my collection which currently sits at 1000+ individual movies and television episodes; although invelos which only counts per barcode shows it as 485.

I have been on the Digital Lard site since its earlier incantation DVD Lard, and after a period of time took the plunge into doing reviews and this is what I currently do.

My favourite genres are mainly Action/Adventure, Horror, Sci-Fi and Mystery although I do like films from other genres too.

Ten of my favourites film are (in no particular order) Alien, Aliens, 12 Angry Men (1957), Forbidden Planet, The Thing, Jaws, Blade Runner, 300, Full Metal Jacket, Forrest Gump, Although there are plenty more movies that I could list here.

Favourite actors at the moment would be Christian Bale, Christopher Walken, Johnny Depp, Basil Rathbone, Samuel L Jackson, Favourite directors are David Fincher and Ridley Scott.
