Violence in Video Games!

There has been violence in video games practically from the beginning; thirty years ago we were shooting ‘space invaders’. Twenty years back we were jumping on the heads of bad guys and now we’re shooting at them with guns and slitting their throats with knives.
After all in cinema we’ve been treated to violence for a lot longer, shouldn’t we blame movies and games for the increasing numbers of murders in the world?
Well obviously not.
Humans have killed each other in many hideous ways for centuries, but are these killer flicks and games glamorising violence and making it more acceptable in modern society?
I believe the answer to that is yes.
Fifty years ago, our parents would’ve been appealed if children were allowed to see violent movies and play video games with murder as the theme, so something must’ve changed in society, otherwise we would not have parents happy to buy 18 certificate material for their 10 years olds as we do today.
Most parents nowadays would not buy hard core pornography for their children, even though it has the same certificate as a movie like Saw or a game like Manhunt. For some reason it’s unacceptable to see to people shagging their brains out, however when these kids are 16 years old they can legally shag each other anyway.
So why is it more acceptable to give them something featuring murder, when, whatever age they are later, murder is still unacceptable and illegal in real life?
I guess the reason is we’ve slowly become more acclimatized to occurrences like violence in our towns, but we don’t often see a three way orgy when we go shopping.
So would Manhunt 2 have caused mass murders?
No it wouldn’t.
Was it right that it should be banned?
Yes I think so. Until uber violent movies and games can be guaranteed not to fall into the hands of minors I think we should limit the release of material with content likely to be too disruptive for young minds.
