Release News - Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra DVD Details

Pathé Distribution Ltd will be releasing the DVD of Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cleopatra starring Monica Bellucci, Christian Claver and Gérard Depardieu, on the 18th July 2005. The retail price is quoted as £12.99, here’s the full press release:

Indulge in a feast of family fun and madcap entertainment as Gérard Depardieu and Christian Clavier bring the plucky marauding Gauls to life in Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cleopatra. Follow Astérix and his delightful companions from comic book to Hollywood, as they burst onto DVD on 18th July 2005 from Pathé Distribution Ltd.

The stage is set in year the AD 52 when the Emperor Julius Caesar (Director Alain Chabat) rules Rome and the beautiful Queen Cleopatra (Monica Bellucci, The Matrix Reloaded, Irreversible) rules Egypt. Bored with Caesar’s constant bragging over the Romans being the greatest of all people, Cleopatra makes a bet with him that her Egyptian public can build the most magnificent palace in his honour within three months. If she succeeds, Caesar will announce publicly that the Egyptian people are the greatest of all.

The Queen commissions the up-and-coming architect Edifis (Jamel Debbouze, Amelie) for the near impossible task. If he succeeds he will be showered with gold, however, if he fails he will be thrown to the hungry royal crocs!

To make things harder, Cleopatra’s official architect Artifis (Gérard Darmon) is overwhelmed with jealously and does everything in his power to disrupt Edifis’ construction plans. In need of a miracle, Edifis sets off to enlist the help of the legendary Astérix (Christian Claver, Astérix vs Caesar) and Obélix (Gérard Depardieu, Green Card, Cyrano de Bergerac, Astérix vs Caesar) and their secret weapon – a magic potion!!

When Caesar hears that the palace is taking shape he instructs his army to attack and destroy it, to ensure he doesn’t lose face to the Queen. Will the help of Astérix, Obélix and the magic potion be enough to help build the palace in time, or are the crocs in for a special Edifis treat?
